Blue: It's Always Been My Favorite Color

Friends and family met at Moe's Bar B Que in downtown Mobile last night for our second gender reveal extravaganza in two years. Before biting into cupcakes from Twist, we enjoyed a delicious dinner and even better conversation. Even still, we were all filled with anticipation about the outcome: Would the filling in the cupcakes be BLUE or PINK? No one was filled with more anxiety than my husband, JT, who has been insisting for months that we were having a girl. I warned him about the dangers of getting my hopes up and being wrong; yet he remained confident. So confident in fact, he even suggested we forgo a gender ultrasound...that's how positive he was about being right.

While JT remained in his usual fantasy fog of positivity, I played the part of the realist. Of course, I was hoping for a little girl, but I wasn't getting my hopes up. In fact, as the day of the gender reveal approached, I was less and less sure of seeing PINK. By yesterday morning, I had myself convinced of and prepared for BLUE results. Based on the general consensus from Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, Team PINK was going strong. That is, until the count of 1-2-3. On three, we all bit into our cupcakes which revealed a fluffy filling of BLUE buttercream icing. It's a BOY! was the shout all around.

BLUE was a shock to most. JT especially. He really really hates to be wrong. Many of us had our hearts set on ribbons, frills, and bows. Deep down, however, I think I had always known that I would be a boy mom. In my first year of teaching I taught a classroom of 18 middle schoolers, only 2 of which were girls. My dad told me then that God was most likely preparing me to be a mother to little boys. He (unlike JT and his "girl theory") was right.

The more I think about my future as a mom to two little men, the more excited I get. There will be a lot of perks to being the only lady in a house full of guys. Last night, I went to bed with a smile on my face and a very happy heart. I can't wait for Charlie to have a little brother, and most importantly, a friend, playmate, and partner in crime.

  1. Exciting. God knows what we need, and what he has gifted us for. The world needs strong, godly men. Congrats to you and JT!
