If there's one thing that Southern women know how to do, it's how to throw a baby shower (or any other shower for that matter). This particular shower was different in that it wasn't for any one particular person. It was to show support for and to benefit an organization called Sav-A-Life, which is a local organization whose mission statement is this:
Women's Resource Center provides compassionate care, practical help and accurate information to women who believe they're pregnant and who may be considering abortion. We offer help without judgment and a path to Christ, both in word and deed.
- from the Women's Resource Center website
Sav-A-Life offers a variety of ways to contribute to and volunteer with their organization. The baby shower was one of the options they suggested for getting outside groups involved in the great work they're doing. So, as part of our church's service-focused "
Love Week," we decided to partner with another small group and throw a baby shower for a great cause: saving the lives of precious baby boys and girls not yet born and pouring love and support into the lives of expectant mothers.
If you would like to know more about partnering with Sav-A-Life in this way, here are some basic guidelines for hosting baby showers, as well as, a description of what happens to the donations once they are received:
I am thrilled not only by the number of donations we received (and are still receiving) but by the fact that without meeting these young ladies and women, we are able to send them some powerful messages: we support you; your child is a precious gift; we want to help make your transition to motherhood a bit easier; you are loved not only by us but by God.

| We were blessed with such generous donors!!! |
In addition to the suggested donations, we also wanted to send some pretty reminders of God's promises regarding parents and children to grace the walls of their "Earn While You Learn" classroom at Sav-A-Life. One of the wonderful ladies in our small group, Cassy Mathis, designed the following posters as part of her contribution to the shower (and we can't stop talking about and admiring her beautiful handiwork):

...which brings me to one of my favorite aspects of the whole process: working alongside godly women and dear friends who volunteered their time and effort to make the shower such a special event. We went all out and had the best time doing it! It was so wonderful to see each woman use her gifts for the glory of God. Sometimes I forget that small things make a big difference in the lives of others. Things like decorating, drawing, designing, cooking, cleaning, planning, running errands, etc. may seem like run-of-the-mill activities (some we participate in on a daily basis), but when we get together and incorporate them all simultaneously for a purpose, big things can happen. I have come to realize that the women I participate in small group with are not only prayer warriors with servant hearts, they are also accomplished artists, seasoned party planners, decorators with fabulous taste, creative minds that can make anything work, fantastic cooks, flower arrangers, cleaning machines, and leaders who can simply get things done! Each of our gifts are different but they all come together in perfect harmony to please God and to create lovely things like the event that was our Sav-A-Life shower at Carpe Diem this past Saturday.
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord... Colossians 3:23
...whatever you do, do all unto the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
